Consumerpedia Help

Each topic has it's own page. You can go to any topic by entering it in the Search Box found on every page.

Once on a topic page, you can add a comment about that topic or a navigational suggestion as to how that topic relates to other topics (simply click the Add/Rate link).

If other users have already made comments or suggestions, you can rate them based on how helpful they are. This will influence the order in which comments and suggestions are displayed - with those deemed most helpful displayed first.

When adding a comment, you can link to another topic/page simply by putting the text of that topic in double brackets. So if you were writing about iPods and wished to link to the Consumerpedia Apple Computer page from within your comment, you might write something like:

The iPod is yet another fine product from [[Apple Computer]]

and it would actually be displayed as:

The iPod is yet another fine product from Apple Computer

There are four other types of possible navigation suggestions:

1. Categories. If the topic is Apple Computer, then a Category is a topic of which Apple Computer is a Sub-topic, for example, Personal Computers. By adding Personal Computers as a Category to Apple Computer you also automagically add Apple Computer as a Sub-topic to Personal Computers.

2. Sub-topics. If the topic is Apple Computer, then a Sub-topic is a topic for which Apple Computer is a Category, for example, iPod. By adding iPod as a Sub-topic to Apple Computer you also automagically add Apple Computer as a Category to iPod.

3. Other Related Topics. If the topic is Apple Computer, then an Other Related Topic is a topic that is neither a Category or a Sub-topic but is still related, for example, Microsoft. By adding Microsoft as an Other Related Topic to Apple Computer you also automagically add Apple Computer as an Other Related Topic to Microsoft.

4. Redirect To Topic. This is for advance users only! If the topic is, for example Apple Computerz (with that odd extra "z" on the end), then an appropriate Redirect To Topic would most likely be Apple Computer. This is basically saying "go to this other topic instead of this one" and is most often used in the case of common misspellings.

Please note that, to prevent affiliate spammers, user-contributed html is not allowed anywhere on the site except in designated fields on user profile pages and on Claimed Pages (which is a topic page that has been claimed by a company or organization that is about them or their products or services so that they can provide additional information, a link to the proper information page on their own website, and responses to user comments left on that page)

Additional tips and suggestion are made throughout the site. Please be sure to send us feedback if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks!
